The crisis in the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) shows no
sign of abating as the two governors who claim to chair the forum are engaged
in a power struggle, using the dispute between the federal government, on one
side, and the states and local governments, on the other, over the sharing of
federally collectible revenue as the backdrop.
Rivers State Governor, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, Monday summoned
an emergency meeting of all the 36 governors, including the Plateau State
Governor, Jonah Jang, who heads the breakaway faction of the NGF, and his Akwa
Ibom State counterpart, Godswill Akpabio.
The meeting, which is scheduled to hold in Abuja tomorrow,
will discuss the dispute between the federal government and the states over the
sharing of federally collectible revenue.
The meeting is also expected to decide on whether to
withdraw the governors’ suit against the federal government over the
establishment of the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) and the withdrawal of the $1
billion from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) as seed fund for the SWF.
