The Federal Government has pledged to reenact the massive infrastructural rehabilitation carried out on the Police College in Lagos in all other such colleges across the country.
Vice President Namadi Sambo made this disclosure during an on-the-spot assessment tour of the Police College, Ikeja, to ascertain the level of completion of the trainee’s classrooms, hostels, dinning halls and other structures rehauled by the Nigerian Army Engineering Corp.
According to Sambo, the rehabilitation of police training institutions across the nation was the only way to ensure that quality police officers are breed who in turn will exercise utmost professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He added that from his tour of the facility, he can safely adjudge from the new look of the college that it has now met international standards and can compete favourable with any police college in terms of infrastructure.
He said, "The rehabilitation of police training institutions is to ensure that they churn out a breed of quality officers who are ready to change the image of the institution.
“ I am highly impressed with what I have seen. With the job I have seen, I want to commend the Nigerian Army for a job well done. I am impressed with the landscaping of these infrastructures. We thank the president for the support and financial backing for the project.
“I want to assure you that all Police colleges in Nigeria would be reconstructed and rehabilitated like the police college, Ikeja but at the same time, I want to charge you to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities.”
In response, the Inspector General of police, Mohammed Abubakar, expressed delight over the gesture of the government, adding that with the structure ready for use, training of officers and men would soon commence since the army has delivered a renovated Police college.
Also, the Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade. urged the management of the college to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities so as not to slip back to its former deplorable state.
