Tragedy struck yesterday after a teenager was burnt to death in a fire that engulfed a building on Ishawo area of Ikorodu, Lagos. The teenagers parents and two other persons were said to have also been burnt in the fire which started at the wee hours of the morning. Report said they were being attended to at the emergency unit of an undisclosed hospital.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained as at time of writing this report. But it was gathered that it started from one of the rooms on 30 Femi Ogunyeye street while occupants of the six-room apartments were asleep.
An alarm raised by one o f the occupants who woke to urinate alerted others. But the female teenager and members of his families were reportedly choked by think smoke,thereby hampering their attempt to escape.
Sympathizers were said to have managed to drag out the teenagers parents and two others. But their attempt to retun back to rescue the teenager said to be crying for help failed as the fire had reportedly engulfed the entire building.
Men of the fire service who arrived the scene reportedly prevented the inferno from spreading to other buildings.
Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Mr Rasaq Fedipe confirmed the incident, informing that “ out of the five emergencies attended to, that in Ikorodu witnessed a casualty, where a female teenager was roasted by fire while her parents and two others sustained varying degrees of burns”.
