The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident and who shot Senator Magnus Abe with rubber bullets. Last Sunday, Abe was allegedly shot by a yet-to-be identified policeman, prompting the IG to institute a crack team to investigate the incident.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba, the IG said a special team of investigators from the Force Criminal and Investigation Department has been assigned investigation.
He said in a bid to ensure a speedy probe of the incident, the team headed by CP Idris Umar Farouk, is to visit the scene of the incident and also interview all relevant parties to the said incident, including the organisers of the event.
He also said police officers and other key witnesses would be interrogated so as to obtain a full and unbiased account of the incident that would aid the ongoing investigation.
With a promise to maintain fairness and justice to all, the IG however called on the citizens of the state to cooperate with the investigative team, as well as maintain calm and shun all inflammatory or presumptuous statements.
He further urged the residents of the state to continue to respect the laws at the land while going about their normal businesses.
