EXCLUSIVE: Bereaved Family of Man Killed by Police Sergeant Petitions Fashola

The family of the recent victim of police recklessness, 32-year-old Oyoma Edewor, has petitioned the Lagos State Government, Babatunde Fashola, over the death of their son in the hands of a police sergeant, Otene Godwin, with force number 355272.

Meanwhile, the petition from the legal counsel to the Edewor family, Sheriff Adebayo, which was sent to the governor and the commissioner for justice and attorney general of the state reads in part; "We would like to bring to the notice of your office the unlawful killing of a lagos state resident Mr. Oyoma Edewor.


"He was killed on May 11, 2014 around FESTAC gate area of Lagos State, by a member of the Nigerian Police Force,  Area Command Area ‘E’ by the name Sergeant Otene.

"Based on the information before us and consequent upon our enquiries and accounts of eye witnesses we believe the occurrence.

"The deceased was having his vehicle towed into FESTAC where  two policemen, one of them identified as Sergeant Otene of the Area E Command, who were on guard duty left their security post.”

 It added, "We and the family of the deceased plead with you to use the power of your office to stop at nothing to ensure justice is done and the perpetrators of this hideous act are made to face the full wrath of the law so as to serve as a deterrent to other law officers.


"Officers whose acts at every instance defaces the image of the Nigerian police and the people of Lagos State as a whole. Consequent upon this, we urge you to use your good office to monitor and support the immediate investigation of this matter so that justice may be done concerning this hideous act."
