EXCLUSIVE: Lagos Police Arrest Most Wanted Criminal in Oyo State

Police detectives attached to the Lagos State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) have arrested one of the most deadliest criminal in the whole of the South-Western Region.

The suspect identified as the former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW), Oyo State chapter, Mukaila Lamidi alias Auxiliary was arrested for gun running and some violent crimes in the south western states.


The suspect along with another notorious criminal also identified as Tokyo were declared wanted in 2011 by the Oyo State Government for their alleged involvement in the day light murder of a 500 level medical Student of Sokoto University along Iwo Road.

During his days as NURTW chairman, the suspect was alleged to have been involved in the numerous political crisis and killings in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Parading the suspect at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, yesterday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko said that his arrest is sequel to the arrest of a notorious illegal arms dealer identified as Abdulazeez Amao who smuggled AK 47 rifles from Mali and Bokina Faso to Nigeria on March 10, 2014.

The Lagos police boss, said the suspect in his confessional statement alleged that one Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi aka Auxilliary who is also the immediate past NURTW Oyo State chairman bought one AK 47 rifles and one English pistol from him.

Manko said based on the strength of the information, he detailed the Officer in Charge of SARS, Superintendent of Police (SP) Abba Kyari to investigate and go after the criminal described as one of the most wanted criminal in the south west.

"Two detectives from SARS led by Kyari were briefed and deployed to Oyo State with extensive GSM data obtained from Auxiliary's phone numbers.

"After three days of diligent follow up, Mukaila Lamidi was intercepted and arrested at Olodo Area of Ibadan on May 10, 2014 at about 10.30pm while driving in his ash colored Nissan Quest Soace bus with registration number Ca 647 KSF and one Zastava pistol with breach No. 150533, two loaded magazines with 15 rounds each and one packet of .9mm live ammunition containing 50 rounds were recovered from him" he added.

Manko further stated that furring the course of interrogation. The suspect alleged that he gave his AK 47 rifle to one Tirimisiyu Olowoposi who also live in Ibadan.

He explained that effort is ongoing to arrest the supposed keeper of the AK 47 rifle.

The suspect in his confessional statement alleged that he only procured the pistol for self protection and not for robbery. He admitted that he actually bought the pistol from one of the gun runners for N350,000 and had not fired a shot with it since he purchased it three years ago.
