Fani Kayode
A former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has finally dumped his former party to team up with members of the newly formed All Progressives Congress (APC), a coalition of some opposition parties.
Fani-Kayode, who served under the regime of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, declared on Monday during a visit to the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, in Ado-Ekiti, that he decided to defect to the APC because of the composition of the membership of the new party.
On his frosty relationship with the PDP, he said: “What Nigerians need now is to join hands with the APC leaders, Major General Muhammadu Buhari and Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu to move the nation forward.”
Fani-Kayode, a former PDP chieftain, who said he was not sure the ruling party was worth salvaging, said he had left the party long ago to pitch his tent “with those that my spirit has been with long ago.”
The former minister expressed fears that: “I am not sure that great leaders have respect for the party again. I am not sure former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, is respecting the party again and many others, so I had to bid the party bye-bye.”
Fani-Kayode said he had dumped the PDP for APC, describing his former party as a sinking ship that cannot be salvaged.
