UNILAG Students Protest High Cost of Items in School

Students of University Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka Campus, Yaba, yesterday took to the streets of the campus in protest of the alleged high cost of food and other items by the accredited vendors.

The students said the prices of the items on the campus were more expensive that what is obtainable outside the campus, adding that ordinarily, it should be the other way round.

According to them, prices of items in academic environments are usually fixed bearing in mind the lean pockets of the students, adding that the cost of making photocopies is expensive to say the least.

They also flayed the prices of other items such as the sachet water, which they noted was sold for N10 per sachet, while the Indomie super pack, which is sold for N60 in town, goes for N70 in the campus as well as the larger sized Indomie, which is sold for N110 as against the N100 obtainable outside the campus.

The students also lampooned the cost of the fizzy and soft drinks, which they said is sold for N120 per bottle instead of at the cost of N100.
