Again, Police Kill Another in Lagos

The incessant killings of commercial motorcycle riders
popularly known as Okada was again
brought to the fore yesterday when some policemen attached to the Ketu Police
Division shot yet another commercial motorcyclist.
However conflicting reports said it was not a
commercial motorcyclist that was shot dead rather a commercial bus conductor at
the Tipper Garage in Ketu, along the Ikorodu Expressway.
Meanwhile, THISDAY gathered that the commercial motorcyclist
who was shot on Tuesday by policemen attached to the Ilupeju Police Division,
died yesterday due to loss of blood.
The incident has brought the total number of commercial
motorcycle riders shot by the police in two weeks to five, thereby raising
fears of a volatile protest by the commercial motorcycle riders.
These fears are not out of place going by the deadly
reprisal attack often carried out by these commercial motorcycle riders each
time any of their colleagues are murdered in like manner.
The rampaging group has been known to destroy
government structures and properties like the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) like they
did on Tuesday, destroying about three BRT Buses at the Ilupeju area.
Attempts to confirm the incident from the state
Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of
Police, proved abortive.
However, police sources said the state commissioner
of police has expressed his displeasure at the way the trigger happy policemen keep
bringing disrepute to the force.
