SLUM TO SCHOOL PROJECT 'NET A CHILD'

NET A CHILD PROJECT

Research has shown that malaria remains the foremost disease concern in Nigeria – with an estimated 300,000 children dying of malaria each year.  And Uberfact says malaria has killed more people than all the wars in history. Malaria accounts for over 25% of infant mortality (children under age 1), 30% of childhood mortality (children under five), and 11% of maternal mortality.

Malaria is particularly severe among pregnant women and children under 5 years of age, due to their relatively lower levels of immunity. But this suffering and loss of life are tragically unnecessary, as malaria is largely preventable, detectable, and treatable.
On April 25th the Community iMPACT Team had a medical intervention to one of Lagos largest slums to sensitize the community and also advocate for proper prevention of malaria. With a project tagged “Project NET A CHILD” which was aimed at ensuring that this simple, inexpensive and life-changing protection is provided to all.  The project included free medical mission by a team of young doctors, nurses, pharmacists and health workers, particularly made up of corps members. We were able to do a malaria testing program, de-worming and treatment by medical practitioners to children, pregnant women and elderly people in this poor community.
The project also involves organizing reorientation training for the community members on how and why to use mosquito nets and the importance of environmental sanitation, cleanliness, water purification and prevention of diseases.
Insecticide treated nets and water purifiers, including small storage buckets were issued to all beneficiaries of the SLUM2School Projects. Pregnant women who trooped out in their numbers.

We feel really glad about this project and we believe we will gradually iMPACT more lives across boarders. We however appreciate our great Community iMPACT team who made this successful and our numerous partners.
