Army Investigates 60 Officers over Examination Leakage

By Chiemelie Ezeobi
The Nigerian Army has commenced investigation on over 60 of its officer in connection with leakage of the lieutenants to captains promotion examination. The 60 indicted officers out of the 300 that took the examination are to have been paced on close surveillance and are facing a  military board of inquiry by a detachment of the military police at the 1 division in Kaduna.
This is just as reports said the chief culprit simply identified as  Lieutenant Taofik in the examination leakage was arrested in Akwa Ibom State. Sources said although the rules had banned cell phones into the examination hall, the said lieutenant had allegedly smuggled one in fully loaded with answers to the questions.

On realising that his secret had been uncovered, the officer was said to have fled  from the hall but that was not before he had allegedly distributed to the indicted 60 officers. Preliminary investigations traced the leakage to a clerk in the service who had since fled alongside Taofik

Meanwhile, other officers who were not found wanting in the examination fraud case are demanding the cancelation of the examination, explaining that only a new examination will test the knowledge of all officers who took the papers.

Although the Army Spokesman, Brigadier General Ibrahim Attahiru, denied the allegation, THISDAY gathered that the remaining 240 officers have called on the examination officials particularly the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and the Army authority to move towards canceling the examinations as it does not encourage proper career development.

Attahiru however said the military police unit of the force has stepped in to investigate the matter explaining that after the investigation, any person found culpable would be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction for trial.
