10 Policemen Demoted for Corruption, Misconduct

The Kano State Police Command has disclosed that 10 police officers were demoted to various ranks over allegations of torture, corruption and unprofessional conducts.
The spokesman of the state Police Command, Mr. Musa Magaji Majia, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), told journalists in Kano Monday, that most of the cases were reported to the command Public Complaints Bureau. According to him, the command would not relent in its efforts to ensure a corrupt-free policemen, adding that the command would not tolerate any form of corruption.

The spokesman of the police stated that those officers demoted were two Inspectors to the rank of Sergeant, one Sergeant to Corporal, six Corporals to Constables and one Constable received a warning letter and was reprimanded.
He explained that other officers were caught by the officer in charge of the X-Squad, which was directed to monitor police formations, like checkpoints in the state.
“The present leadership of the police will not allow any form of corruption, and anybody within the force found receiving or demanding the corruption from the public should be report to nearest police formation for quick action.”
The police command also mediated 18 cases since the assumption of the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Musa Daura, in February this year, assuring that the command would continue to redouble its effort to ensure peace and security in the state.
He also appealed to the public to continue to support the police with vital information that would help to ensure security in the state.
