EXCLUSIVE: Police Burst Syndicate who Specialise in Ambushing International Travelers

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command, has arrested a five-man syndicate who specialise in ambushing international travelers and disposing them of their belongings. It was gathered that the syndicate usually perch around the    Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja and monitor international travelers  shortly after they leave the arrival lounge for their respective destinations.


According to the gang, they usually hang around  the arrival lounge and access passengers to judge their financial status. They thereafter trail their victims to a distance and ambush them in an isolated area. Confirming the incident, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Chukwuma Ozoani, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the suspects were arrested after a serious gun battle .

According to him, SARS operatives had arrested two of the suspects first following a tip off about how they had been attacking innocent passengers. With the arrest of some of the suspects, he noted that they confessed during interrogation and disclosed the whereabouts of other gang members.


He however said the three others were arrested after they were fatally wounded in the gun duel with the operatives at Sango Ota, Ogun state. He added that the operatives raided their hideout and  recovered  items including an English pistol, a double barrel pistol, a single barrel gun and 35 cartridges.
