Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko
A mild drama occurred Wednesday at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto, when supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had besieged the airport, prevented the chartered flight conveying the state Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, from landing at the airport.
The plane was also carrying all the representatives of the state in the Senate and House of Representatives. The crowd had thronged the tarmac of the airport in order to catch a glimpse of the governor, who was suspended by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP for alleged insubordination.

However, the pilot of the aircraft, who attempted to land at about 4:p.m. could not do so due to the large crowd at the tarmac, thereby prompting him to fly back to Kaduna.
The frosty relationship between the federal government and governors, who are believed to be against President Goodluck Jonathan over the 2015 election had started with the Governor of Rivers State, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, when his aircraft, which was conveying him and his entourage was grounded for about two hours at the Akure Airport, Ondo State, for allegedly violating aviation procedures for take-off on April 26.
While the public outcry that greeted Amaechi’s debacle was yet to abate, his Edo State counterpart, Adams Oshiomhole, also had his chartered helicopter, which was meant to convey him and his entourage last Friday to Anambra State, recalled in midflight.
However, the NAMA Wednesday explained that it diverted the plane, a Donnier 328 aircraft conveying the Wamakko, which was supposed to land at the Sokoto airport to Kaduna airport, due to safety and security precautionary measures.
