dele-momodu-backpage-Real.jpg - dele-momodu-backpage-Real.jpg
The Pendulum By Dele Momodu, Email: Dele.momodu@thisdaylive.com

Fellow Nigerians, please, permit me to share my views with you on why it is easy for bad politicians and incompetent leaders to thrive in Nigeria. I will also attempt to challenge us all on what is required to bring about the desired change we all seem to crave.

Thanks to Channels Television and Ebony Life TV, I was able to watch the Genvoices’ conference on my screen last Saturday. Let me commend the organisers for a great job. The organisation was superb. The quality of participants was awesome. I enjoyed Tonye Cole, Oby Ezekwesili, Ohimai Godwin-Amaize, Baba Christopher Kolade, Mo Abudu, Omotola Jalade, and others, not in any particular order. The powerful contributions rekindled my hope in the abilities of Nigerians to dissect our gargantuan problems and provide gigantic solutions.

Another Recycling of Old Hands as Obanikoro, Gusau, others make President GEJ's Ministerial List

It was not surprising to say the least at the names released by President Goodluck Jonathan for a fresh ministerial list. It was simply a case of recycling old hands.  In the list were all one-time persons who have been in government in times past.

Read the list: Former National Security Adviser, Lt-Gen Aliyu Gusau, former Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro, and former Governor of Adamawa State, Boni Haruna were on the list of 11 ministerial nominees forwarded by President Goodluck Jonathan to the Senate for confirmation.

DEOLA AKINREMI: Seeking Justice for Ejigbo Sodomy Victims

Next month, it will be exactly one year since two women were dehumanised in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State by a group of men who sodomised them for alleged theft.  A few days after the incidence, one of the victims died without justice.  Adeola Akinremi visited the neighbourhood where the barbaric act took place and writes about efforts to get justice for the victims

Loud and crowded, Ejigbo in Lagos has that semblance of a disorganised community with scary sound of moving cars on its damaged roads and strange noise coming out of a market nearby. Its major roads are broken and the potholes on the roads are deep enough to make for a crypt. Most of the houses built under high-voltage electric cable make Ejigbo looks rumpled.

SIMON KOLAWOLE LIVE: All the President’s Enemies

0101 SK-backpagex.jpg - 0101 SK-backpagex.jpg

Simon Kolawole Live!: By Simon Kolawole, Emailsimon.kolawole@thisdaylive.com
Does President Goodluck Jonathan sleep at night? Does he not have nightmares? Does he not wake up midnight, sweating and screaming? I have had to wonder at times - given the groundswell of opposition against him. On a daily basis, opposition keeps landing body blows on him. Opposition from within and without. If I were Jonathan, I would feel intimidated. He once described himself as the most criticised president in history. I don’t know about that. We are in the age of the social media where citizens’ messages are neither censored nor limited by time and space; the loudness and speed of travel of their voice is electronically accelerated and amplified, unlike in the past when citizens simply gathered around vendors’ stands to analyse and criticise their leaders.

The Federal Government has once again proven that the era of recycling old and over used products will never end, Barely days after the former National PDP Chairman, Bamanga Tukur was kicked out, the President, Goodluck Jonthan has appointed him the chairman of the. national Railway Corporation. By this action, all those who think the railways would be reactivated better have a rethink cos they are on a long thing. As far as I am concerned, the railway revival is DEAD ON ARRIVAL cos the Tukur we know would never amount to any good there.

In Search of LifeLine for Goodness

Goodness
He was born with a defective intestine which has sentenced him to a life of passing out wastes from the stomach instead of the normal physiological path for five years. but with corrective surgery, baby Goodness would go back to normal life and live like other children, writes Chiemelie Ezeobi

For most people, little thought is given to bowel control and movement as it’s just a natural phenomenon that takes place after digestion. However normal that is for others, the same does not apply to 5-year-old Goodness. But that was not always the case for him.
When his mother, Florence Nkemachor, noticed the signs of pregnancy in 2008, like any new mother, she battled with morning sickness and other effects associated with pregnancy and took them in her stride.

SEASON OF OPEN LETTERS: Tolu Ogunlesi Writes President Jonathan One

Tolu Ogunlesi writes an open letter to President Jonathan, thereby joining the growing list of people writing an open letter, which started with former president, OBJ. For those who dont know Tolu, google is your friend but he is an award winning journalist with a knack for news. Read What Tolu said;
Dear Mr. President,
I am constrained to write this open letter to you before this season of letters comes to a close. I will go straight to the issues at stake. Let’s start with the level of toxic-ness in the air, sustained to a large extent by the attitude of your array of spokespersons, who today do little more than insult and dismiss everyone deemed to be an “enemy” of the President. Just as you have a point when you said that the easiest way to be deemed “progressive” is to abuse Jonathan, it has also become that criticising the President quickly earns one all sorts of unprintable labels from the your camp.

Tambuwal: 48 Garlands For The Peoples’ Rep-By Imam Imam

TAMBUWAL
On January 10, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, added a year to his life and his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Imam Imam, took out time to pen him a note.  Hear Him:

Eulogising the life of any person, especially a respected leader who has stood for the common good, is not easy. As US President Barrack Obama said while reading his tribute at the funeral of the great Nelson Mandela, it is hard to capture in words not just the facts and the dates that make a life, but the essential truth of a person – their private joys and sorrows; the quiet moments and unique qualities that illuminate someone’s soul.  How much harder to do so for a giant of history, who moved a nation toward justice, and in the process moved billions around the world.

Rape Joke Controversy: Basketmouth Yet to Get that ‘Jokes Should Have Limit” –

Barely days after he made a half-hearted apology for the crude joke he made about rape, which got him censure, Basketmouth is truly yet to get  it. During an interview with Adesope Olajide of Vox Africa, he said JOKES SHOULD HAVE NO LIMIT.

Hear him on the Rape Joke Controversy: “Definitely I am sorry about what happened. The people that it offended…I won’t say the people that misunderstood but the people that it offended. It limits me though. Now it limits the type of jokes I’m going to be cracking right now. Sadly, every joke hits people the wrong way. If I crack jokes about food, there are people in third world countries saying, ‘Why is he cracking jokes about food? Have I chop na?’ They will just go on twitter and say ‘This guy should stop cracking jokes about food, I haven’t eaten’.”

Oil Tanker Fire
Chiemelie Ezeobi who visited the scene of the tanker fire that killed 15 people and razed over 50 shops in Lagos on Tuesday, writes that it was a new year gone bad for the victims
It is no gainsaying that people often approach a new year with hopes and aspirations of better things to come and it was no different for the residents and traders that dot the stretch of road that makes up the Berger Suya area in Lagos.
