EXCLUSIVE: POLICE ARREST BENINOISE, 5 OTHERS FOR GUN RUNNING, ARMED ROBBERY

THE SUSPECTS
A Beninoise, one Abbey Edward has been arrested by officers of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly importing locally made pistols into Nigeria from Benin Republic and selling same to armed robbers. He was arrested together with five other suspects including; Adewale Osoja, Bala Yahaya, Hasan Ado, Ahmed Boladale and Abiodun Olarewaju.

While parading the suspects today, the Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State Police Command, DSP Ngozi Braide said the robbers carried out their operation while the church was rounding up the service, and carted away Ipads, Ipods, phones, jewelleries, and church offering of about N47, 000 .

She said, “The same gang also robbed at Morontola Street, Vespa, Ijanikin on Jan. 1st, where the occupants exhibited bravely and engaged them. As a result, one of their operational weapons fell on the ground and they escaped abandoning it.
“However, on Jan. 2, one of the suspects, a gang member foolishly went to that street to ask some area boys if they have seen any gun. The community was immediately alerted about it and he was arrested.
“The suspect was later transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad Officer in Charge, SP Abba Kyari, who led his team to arrest five other members, including the ring leader, who had just returned from prison.
“A Beniniose, who supplied the gang with five double barrel locally made pistols he imported into Nigeria was also arrested. He sold each gun N7,000 to the ring leader, who in turn sold same to robbers at N20,000 each.”
