A middle-aged male passenger  Sunday slumped and died at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on his way to Owerri. The deceased had arrived to the airport with his wife and his brother from London and was to board a domestic flight to Owerri when he slumped and died.
Sources said the deceased was a diabetic patient who was wheeled out of the aircraft at the international terminal on his arrival from London but on arrival at the GAT, he insisted that he would walk and as he walked to the check-in area, he slumped and died.
When his wife was asked why he was allowed to walk when he was seriously ill, she said he had insisted on walking by himself, instead of being helped to the check-in area and the departure lounge.
General Manager, Corporate Communication of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Yakubu Dati, confirmed the incident.
“About 0600 hours, a transit passenger on his way to Owerri with his son and wife, slumped at the entrance of the departures (GAT). He was immediately rushed to the aviation clinic where he was confirmed dead. The passenger’s wife, brother and son were with the deceased and later proceeded to Owerri,” Dati said.
