EXCLUSIVE: CP Lagos threatens to sanction DPO, Corporal over woman knocked down by policeman

Lagos PRO, Braide

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Manko yesterday, said the Police Corporal who knocked down a woman and her baby down while driving against traffic last month along the Apapa/Oshodi expressway, was being probed alongside the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Festac, Ibrahim Zango, who reportedly sent the policeman on errand. If found guilty at the end of on-going investigation, the command's boss threatened that the DPO and Corporal would face the consequences.
This is just as doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba are still battling to resuscitate the victim,Mrs Taskirat Anjolaiya , a teacher at the Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School, who sustained pelvic fracture and brain injury . On the other hand , her baby, Amarah, who sustained a broken jaw was reportedly responding to treatment.
Answering questions from journalists on the command's position regarding making money available for the treatment of both mother and child, the CP disclosed that the command would consider assisting the family financially, on compassionate ground.
He was however , quick to clarify that the Corporal was not on duty for the command as at the time the incident occurred , stating that it was a private arrangement between him and the DPO.
Manko also frowned at the Corporal's attitude of driving against traffic that fateful day, describing the act as an offense of its own that warrants sanction.
“The corporal was brought to my office and has written a statement. The DPO has also been asked to give an official statement on the issue. By the time we are through, everyone will get his own portion,” he said.
