A Federal High Court in Lagos Monday restrained the Financial Reporting Council
(FRC) of Nigeria from going ahead with the investigation of suspended Governor
of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, over alleged financial
recklessness.
Justice John Tsoho, while upholding all the reliefs sought,
held that Sanusi was right to have rushed to court to stop the probe, because
it was evident that investigation was orchestrated to nail him ab initio.
Giving proverbial words to back his position, Justice Tsoho
likened the FRC probe to a cockroach finding itself in the midst of fouls,
adding that such cockroach, in the words of the elders, can never be innocent.
While stating that prevention was better than cure, the
court ruled that Sanusi was absolutely right to approach the court to protect
his constitutional rights.
