Confusion as 30 Students Faint After Inhaling Gaseous Substance

After inhaling a gaseous chemical substance that engulfed some parts of Ogba suburb in Lagos State, Thursday afternoon, about 30 students of Ogba Junior Grammar School, fainted consecutively, causing confusion to erupt in the school.

While some of the students fainted, others who were quite lucky escaped unhurt as well as the teachers who scampered to safety by closing their nostrils so as not to be affected by the putrid smell.

The Lagos State Command of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Special Task Force on Anti-Pipeline Vandalism has arrested four suspected pipeline vandals including a 15-year old boy, Sani Musa for pipeline vandalism.

The other suspects who were identified as Chibuzor Okorie, Sani Musa, Musa Adamu and Aminu Suleiman were arrested with 200 kegs of 50 litres of diesel which was allegedly siphoned from Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline in Shagamu area of Ogun state.

Navy Declares Decline in Crude Oil Theft, Piracy

Despite the recent incidences of piracy and other maritime illegalities on the nation’s waterways, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba, Thursday said the war on crude oil theft is yielding positive result with a general decline in illegalities at sea.

Ezeoba, made this disclosure in his keynote address at the Naval Information Management Workshop which held at the auditorium of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Quorra, of the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Apapa, Lagos.

The  National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC), has sealed a drug factory and a market, both in Abia State for selling fake drugs and counterfeit unprocessed foods to unsuspecting consumers. The agency had during the week raided the factory which is located at Alaoji area of the state as well as the Eziukwu Market, as part of its efforts to rid the nation of such killer products.

The operatives of the agency who had stormed the factory and the market after a tip off and sealed it off, also arrested eight persons and confiscated the fake products.

NCAA: We’ve No Documents on Armoured Cars’ Purchase

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said it is not in possession of documents relating to the controversial purchase of the two armoured BMW cars, worth N255 million, it was accused of buying for the Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah.

The agency, in an October 23 letter addressed to Falana & Falana Chambers and signed by its Legal Adviser, E. D. Chukwuma, however, did not state who was in custody of the documents.

I was, believe me, under no illusions last week when I asked the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, to say “sorry” to Nigerians for her role in the outrageous purchase of two armoured cars. For the life of me, I knew she wouldn’t apologise. That would be very unNigerian. Part of the qualifications for being a public officer in Nigeria is to be greedy, arrogant and shameless. How can a whole minister apologise? How can a whole minister say it is wrong to buy two bullet-proof cars for over a quarter of a billion naira? How can a whole minister say “I was wrong to approve the transaction”? How can a whole minister say, “As the supervisory minister for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), I hereby take full responsibility for this mess”? There is too much shamelessness in public office for people to cultivate a moral conscience.
