Navy Declares Decline in Crude Oil Theft, Piracy



Despite the recent incidences of piracy and other maritime illegalities on the nation’s waterways, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba, Thursday said the war on crude oil theft is yielding positive result with a general decline in illegalities at sea.
Ezeoba, made this disclosure in his keynote address at the Naval Information Management Workshop which held at the auditorium of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Quorra, of the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Apapa, Lagos.
He said to continually achieve such positive results, the Nigerian Navy (NN) was undergoing a massive transformation covering policies, progresses and infrastructural development including platform acquisition, barracks rehabilitation, training and welfare.
The CNS who was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command (WNC), Rear Admiral Ibok Ibas, admitted that the achievements recorded could not have been possible without the unalloyed commitment of officers and ratings.
While adding that the theme of the workshop was germane considering the unique role of the mass media in moulding public support for their operation, he said the cooperation of the media was needed in disseminating the results achieved by the service.
