EXCLUSIVE: NAFDAC Raids, Seals Markets Over Fake Products


The  National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC), has sealed a drug factory and a market, both in Abia State for selling fake drugs and counterfeit unprocessed foods to unsuspecting consumers. The agency had during the week raided the factory which is located at Alaoji area of the state as well as the Eziukwu Market, as part of its efforts to rid the nation of such killer products.

The operatives of the agency who had stormed the factory and the market after a tip off and sealed it off, also arrested eight persons and confiscated the fake products.
Confirming the arrests, the Assistant Director, Federal Task Force on Fake  and Counterfeit Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods, Lagos unit, Mr. Shaba Mohammed, said the agency acted on the information it got.

According to him, information made available to the agency revealed that one Raphael Utah was adulterating and selling off the fake native drugs (Alomo Bitters) as the original.

Speaking, Lagos Public Relations Unit, Anslem Okonkwor, said Mohammed led the operation and mounted an in-depth surveillance of the area to ascertain the level of criminality going on in those areas.
