EXCLUSIVE: Navy Says its Presence at Sea Curtails Crude Oil Theft, Piracy

As the quest to curb crude oil theft, piracy and other maritime illegalities on the nation's  waterways continue to rage, the Nigerian Navy (NN) said its presence at sea has ensured a semblance of law and order.
The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Navak Command (WNC), Rear Admiral Ibok Ette Ibas, made this disclosure today  during the end of his second bi-annual inspection of all units and divisions under his command.

He said, "Despite the challenges of an aging fleet, the command has been able to sustain a robust presence on our waters. We have made tremendous progress this year.

"Boosted by our Regional Maritime Awareness Capability (RMAC), our patrol has been more cost effective and efficient many vessels have been arrested for various Offences and handed over to the prosecuting agencies for further action.

"Similar presence is maintained on land as we continue to support our host states to maintain law and order and to achieve this, the command intensified training activities and exercises to ensure that personnel are professionally fit to discharge their duties."
