In what is deemed as perhaps her first official assignment, the wife of the Inspector-General
of Police (IGP), Mrs Zahra-Bunu Abubakar, visited Lagos today. She was the guest of honour at Police Officers Wives Association
(POWA) commissioning of their Lagos office at Oduduwa Crescent, Ikeja.
While commissioning the multi-purpose hall, named after Mariam
Abubakar, the late wife of the IGP, she said
that lack of funds was hindering the from assisting its members and wives of slain officers in distress.
Abubakar said that the association would seek financial and
materials support to assist widows of officers who were killed by the
Boko Haram sect in some Northern states.
She said, ``The association is still on a resource drive, to provide
succour for widows of members of the force who were gruesomely murdered
last year in Alakiyo, Nassarawa State. The wives of officers who paid the supreme price in the course of their services to our fatherland must be assisted. Furthermore, we will continue to seek your excellency’s
support as well as partnership of stakeholders and other generous
Nigerians.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Adejoke
Orelope-Adefulire, restated the commitment of the State Government to
the empowerment of women in the state.
Orelope-Adefulire said that empowering women would reflect in the lives of family members positively.
The deputy governor commended members of the police force for
maintaining security and protecting the lives and property of citizens
in the state. She said that the government would continue to assist POWA with a view to helping the officers to fight crimes.

Fashola, wife of the state governor, AIG Zone 2, Mr Mamman Tsafe, CP Mr
Umar Manko and Lagos PRO, Ngozi Braide.
