EXCLUSIVE: Prepare Your Will, Nigerian Navy warns Officers

Officers and men of Naval Training Command have been warned  to make a valid will in case of any eventuality. This advice came just as the command concluded a one day seminar on the "Administration of Estate of Deseased personnel" held yesterday in Lagos to sensitize NN personnel on the administration of estate of a deceased personnel and also provide useful and practical guide on how to make a valid Will. 

The seminar which was in line with the Nigerian Navy 2014 schedule of event, had the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command Rear Admiral Goddy Anyankpele, reinterate the need for personnel to write their wills to prevent unwanted persons from gaining access to ones property in case the person dies.


While stressing the need Anyankpele insisted that it is better to use ones spouse as next of kin. According to him, no one can really take care of ones children more than ones spouse.

Delivering the lecture, Lieutenant Commander Nkechi Chukwuka said the existence of a Will makes it possible and easy for a person to tidy up his estate to the standard he desires. adding that the Will ensures that the family is protected and the quality of life set out for the family is not denied them even at his death.

She said a person can expressly make known in his Will that his wife is not to be put through any mourning rites that violates her fundamental human rights.

Rear Admiral Anyankpele also noted  that it is not only the rich that writes a Will, like it is wrongly perceived by some people.  Insisting that everyone should have a written Will to avoid family rivalry resulting from sharing the deceased properties.
